Back to French Fries
Looks like its back to french fries:
It was a culinary rebuke that echoed around the world, heightening the sense of tension between Washington and Paris in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. But now the US politician who led the campaign to change the name of french fries to "freedom fries" has turned against the war. Walter Jones, the Republican congressman for North Carolina who was also the brains behind french toast becoming freedom toast in Capitol Hill restaurants, told a local newspaper the US went to war "with no justification".
What's funny about this whole argument is the "french fries" originally came from BELGIUM, NOT FRANCE!!! *evil grin* (Only they call it "pommes frites" and they serve it fresh in a paper cone with mayo -- NOT ketchup...)
The origin reference of "french" in "french fries" is not referenced (directly anyway) to the country, but from how the potatoes are cut. (I don't know if you are old enough to remember the days when frozen "French Fries" were labelled as "French Cut Potatoes" or "French Cut Fries." I barely did as a little kid.)
